How To Surely Win All Of Your Bids
Wednesday, June 2nd, 2021
Going to an auction is one thing, but actually bidding and winning items is such a rush! At your first auction, you might be a little intimidated. The auctioneer is speaking so fast that you can hardly understand and people are throwing bids out left and right.
Be confident
The number one piece of advice there is for winning your bids is to be confident! You need to show that you are serious about your bid, potentially pushing away other bidders who aren’t so sure.
Know what you are bidding for
It’s important to know the items that are going to be auctioned off. If possible, you can look at the auction house’s website to preview the items that will be there. This is helpful so that you can do some research on the items that you are interested in. If there is something that catches your eye, here are the things that you can research beforehand:
- Demand- you can look and see if there is a high demand for the item in other places. This will help you determine if it is worth spending your money on or not. If an item is in high demand, there might be a high resell value to it.
- History- it’s important to understand the history of the item that you want to bid on. This helps you to understand where it came from and how old the item might be. Older items tend to sell for a higher price, but that comes with certain conditions.
- Markings- while researching the items that you are wanting to purchase, you can find the certain markings that should be present on the item. Authentic pieces will have makers’ marks that will tell you whether or not the piece is real. This is important to know because people will sometimes try to pass off a replica as an authentic item.
Study the room
When the auction is about to begin, take a look around and focus on the people attending. You can tell whether or not they are interested in what’s going on. When the items are first introduced, that’s another time to take a look around. Really try to see if people are excited about what is going to be auctioned off. This will help you decide whether or not you will have competition when you are going to bid on something. If no one seems to be interested in the item, you will have a better chance of winning.
