Unique Items That Have Sold At Online Auctions

Although online auctions are commonplace, there are many items that you might be surprised to find. From office furniture to vehicles to antiques to intangible items like air time, you never know what you might find to bid on. Here are some of the most unique items that have been sold at auction.

Historical items and ancient artifacts

As many auction-goers know, items that have a recorded history are almost always valuable. If you are a history buff and like bidding on artifacts, be prepared for high bids. Items can range from hundreds of dollars to millions of dollars. Whatever you choose to bid on, make sure you have done some research on authenticity and cost, as well as available documentation.

Celebrity-related items

People love items that have an association with celebrities. Whether they are personal items like hair brushes, locks of hair, or signed movie memorabilia, these can often be found in online auctions. You typically won’t find items from current celebrities, but you never know. If you are interested in these items, you can be sure others will be too.

Apartments

You may be familiar with foreclosure sales on homes, but some online auctions actually feature apartments for rent. You won’t find these in areas with less competitive housing markets, but they are gaining popularity in large cities like San Francisco. These can be found on websites where landlords can post their available rentals.

Alcoholic beverages (with and without history)

Although there are different laws in different states across the country, you can buy these beverages in online auctions. Wine lovers often find new and vintage wines, as well as more expensive options at great prices. Collectors search for in-tact bottles of liquor, wine, and beer, many of which are actually relics from shipwrecks.

Gemstones and jewelry

It isn’t uncommon to find old collections of items like stamps, firearms, or gemstones at auction. You can even find equipment used in the jewelry making industry. However, it isn’t every day that you find giant pearls, emeralds, or rocks from space. These items (and more) have sold for thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction. It may not be realistic to expect to find these items at a typical auction, but you could find smaller pieces and vintage or antique jewelry.
