Things To Do After You Buy A Car At Auction
Wednesday, May 27th, 2020
So, you’ve done your research before going to a car auction and used your knowledge to bid on and win a vehicle. Congratulations! There ARE some things you should do after getting your car too, though. Here are some steps you should take after getting your new car, truck, or SUV.
Transfer the title and registration
Depending on the area where you live and where you are purchasing the vehicle, laws may vary about doing this. But, in every state, you will need to make sure you have the title, free and clear, in your name. You will also need to make sure the registration is under your name.
Get your vehicle insured
This step is the same no matter where you purchase a car. You will need to have it insured in order to drive it legally. If you don’t currently have car insurance, shop around to see what kind of prices are available. If you are already with a car insurance company, simply call them to add the vehicle to your plan.
Clean the vehicle
Many times, sellers will make sure to clean any cars they are auctioning to make them more appealing to bidders. However, you will still want to do a deeper cleaning to make sure the vehicle is fresh. You can do this on your own or take it in to have it detailed by professionals.
Do repairs and maintenance
You likely know of at least some of the issues your used car has. But, if you did not take a mechanic with you and aren’t too familiar with vehicles, you may have missed some things. As soon as you can after getting your vehicle, take it in to have it inspected and repaired. After that, be sure to take care of regular maintenance.
Get to know your vehicle
This isn’t necessarily as important as maintenance or required by law, but you should consider reading the manual. It will tell you about how to properly use all of the features and functions of the vehicle, as well as suggest maintenance.
