How Much Should A Gun Cost At Auction?
Tuesday, January 18th, 2022
If you’re looking to buy a gun at auction, whether as an investment or for fun, it’s important to know what the average price is.
Many factors affect the final price of a gun at auction and there’s no “one size fits all” answer to this question. However, we can look at averages and give you a rough idea of how much you should expect to pay.
This guide will tell you what sort of prices each type of gun normally brings at auction, and whether it’s likely to go up or down in price depending on factors such as condition, rarity, and historical significance.
The basics
Gun prices vary depending on the type and features you want to add. A Mossberg 20-gauge shotgun can cost as low as $150, while other 9 mm guns could be up to $9000. Some are more expensive than others ranging between $300 – $1000 for popular models in each category
The average price range will depend largely upon what specific kind of firearm interests one has but rest assured knowing this: they won’t break your bank account!
Firearm auctions
Most firearms sold at auction are old and have been around the block. They’ve been used, they might not look pretty but a lot of them will find a new home to a collector or a target shooter! Look out for the surprising prices of guns from former wars that can fetch thousands if their history is right!
In terms of the end price for a gun in general, since old and antique guns aren’t in high demand when they’re new, the prices tend to drop when compared to more modern pistols.
The most expensive guns on average sell for between $1500 – $3500 depending on the type of pistol or rifle it is and what features it includes. The least expensive pistols sell for around $100.
The less rare the gun is, the lower price it will likely get at auction. One of the most common guns sold at auctions is Glock brand handguns which cost $300 – $500 on average. However, if you want to buy rare guns, expect to pay more than average! For example, an original Luger P08 handgun can cost up to $17,000 and a rare Remington model 700 rifle could cost up to $10,500.
It’s beyond the scope of this article to give you specifics on every type of gun available since they’re very many but we’ll mention some popular ones that are regularly sold at auction such as M16’s, AK47’s, and rifles from the Pacific War.
